Sokker til trening

How to choose the best socks for exercise?

How do I choose the best socks for training?

When it comes to truly optimizing your workout results, all possible factors will influence the outcome, including the choice of good socks. Good training socks will provide you with support, stability, comfort, and improved grip inside your shoes, or on the floor/mat if you take off your shoes for squats & deadlifts. A good choice of socks will prevent leg injuries and be your best friends on longer walks, runs, ski trips, or similar activities.

There are many different types of socks to choose from, made of all sorts of textiles, and choosing the right pair of socks for different types of training is something many of us don’t think much about. The truth is, a good choice of socks will give you competitive advantages in addition to maintaining good leg health. It is very important to take care of your legs when training actively! :)

Here, we want to offer some advice on which pairs of socks you should choose for different types of training so you can really perform at your best:

Socks for gym and running

When training and running, you want to feel extra light on your feet, which makes ankle socks a perfect choice. These ankle socks are so light that it actually feels like you are walking barefoot! The socks fit perfectly to your feet and are incredibly comfortable. Our ankle socks are slightly elevated at the ankles to ensure they won’t slip down during active use. These ankle socks also help prevent blisters.

Due to their light design, good grip, and blister-prevention, these socks are also very suitable as running socks. Combine these socks with a pair of light and good running shoes, for example our Endorphin Rx1 Running Shoes, to really glide through the terrain.

Less fabric means more freedom!

Socks for sports and athletics

Want a little extra edge over friends and competitors in your tennis match? Go for a pair of good tennis socks. These tennis socks made of organic cotton, nylon, and elastane are designed to give you good support and stability during intense tennis matches or other sports where your legs are subjected to many steps, turns, and impacts.

These tennis socks are not too thick, not too warm, and they are both soft and comfortable. And last but not least: they look very sporty!

Ingeborg’s product review of our tennis socks: “Seriously the best socks I have tried, often annoyed that many training socks get clammy after a while, but not these 😍 comfortable to wear.”

Socks for mountains and skiing

Warm socks are something every Norwegian needs, and there are no socks that beat classic Norwegian wool socks during the winter season. Wool socks (or “raggsokker”) have been used by us Norwegians through several generations – and for good reason!

With their breathable properties, wool socks are perfect for cold, damp, and wet climates, making them ideal for long ski trips or mountain hikes. Wool insulates well and also provides good cushioning for your legs. Wool socks absorb moisture and dry quickly, which reduces the risk of blisters and discomfort.

Tip: If you use Gore-Tex shoes, you should rather consider our next recommendation (thin wool socks) to maximize the moisture-wicking effect!

Wool socks are a must-have at the cabin and in the mountains, but they are also lovely to wear as cozy socks on lazy days at home.

Andrea’s comment on our wool socks: “These can easily be used for home workouts too!”

Socks for winter sports

Thin wool socks, also known as “technical socks,” are made as a combination of several different materials. Some of these socks can have multiple layers, for example synthetic material inside and outside, with wool in the middle. This is to provide different advantages depending on the situation, but primarily these socks are made to retain heat and wick moisture.

Our thin wool socks, made of high-quality European merino wool, nylon, and elastane, are perfect for winter sports like hockey or skating. They are designed for warmth, functionality, comfort, and to be especially durable. Choose a pair of thin wool socks that have breathable and moisture-wicking properties making them very suitable for cold and damp climates, such as our "Black wool knit sock" (currently out of production).

These socks are also well suited as everyday socks during colder seasons! If you, for example, train after work or school, you can use these both before and during training. Our thin wool socks come in both full length and ankle versions.

Choosing the right pair of socks for your training can make a big difference when it comes to truly optimizing your workout, improving comfort, and taking care of good leg health. There are many options to choose from, and we hope we have helped make your choice a little easier!
